Dear Dominicans & Friends:
The monthly St. Margaret of Castello Chapter meeting will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10:00 o’clock, a.m., at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boise, Idaho. You are welcome to join us via in-person or via Zoom (see “Zoom invitation” below).
Last Tuesday, at 7:00 o’clock a.m., at the Salt and Light Radio “Morning Light” program, Alanna Burg joined via Zoom, and I joined live at the studio, with our hosts Brian and Trinity, we were able to freely speak of St. Dominic and his charism and impact on our lives.
Alanna told the audience a funny anecdote of St. Dominic which all enjoyed. The conversation was light but joyful. After leaving, I thought: Jesus Christ is the answer.
His spiritual son, St. Dominic, who is our spiritual father in the Faith, is needed in the modern world. Why? Because of Christ’s focuses on the Truth, which is necessary for eternal life, but also for our temporal life.
The truth is like a salve of Jesus Christ for sinners. When we recognize our weaknesses, sins, and strengths, we begin to know ourselves, to confess our sins, and to live with our God-giving gifts.
Later in the day, I stopped by the U.S. Post Office to grab some stamps and mail a letter. As I walked in, a lady I did not immediately recognize was walking by, and with a blessing said, “Happy Feast Day!” Surprised, I said, “thank you!” What a wonderful thing to hear on the feast of Holy Dominic.
Next week, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, is a Holy Day of Obligation, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. When you go to Holy Mass, pray for your family, and please pray for the Chapter, that we become well-formed in the charism of St. Dominic, and the spirituality of the Catholic Faith!
The September Chapter meeting will be held at the same time and place, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Interviews will be held for those who are at the meeting in person. Those in distance formation, will be notified of a separate interview via Zoom.
Here are the links for the readings in September:
